Hello, I’m glad you stopped by! I am a mum of 3 kids and wife to 1 husband; our careers and kids keep us busy.
I have been blogging since 2007 in another domain, changing niches and switching between 2 languages until I finally settled to a home decoration / organizing niche for Malay-Language audience. Since my last blogging venture in English, I have been itching to restart a new one. Having a narrow blogging niche sorta prevented me from writing about broader analytical side of me – so I’m thinking, what could be broader than personal finance 🙂
There’s a saying I remembered that.. “not all analytical people are engineers, but all engineers are analytical”. Yes, I (an engineer as a day job) am painfully analytical and it permeates into my personal life. It can be annoying as I will take a long time to analyze big-ticket purchases.
I used to save money quite aggressively back in my student and pre-marriage days (when I was still mummy and daddy’s freeloader hehe). The monthly allowance money I saved during my university days (plus some EPF savings) allowed me to dump a downpayment sum for our 1st investment property (excluding the house we live in). My internship allowances were used for a downpayment sum for my first car when I first started permanent work. Well, that tactic of saving money probably wouldn’t quite work when you have a family with kids and house to maintain.
I learnt how to invest and make the money work for me. For a salaryperson, it is a nice perk knowing the capital you have, grows doing passive income – I’m still learning it. Oh, not to mention that includes investing on yourself, on children and on experiences.
While we’re at that.. I join competitions as a hobby. How it all started? It started when the only calls I got (besides from family and colleagues of course), were from anonymous bankers and telemarketers selling insurances, loans, mutual funds yada yada..
Joining competitions in Malaysia are hardly ever be a hobby for a frugal person, but you could think of it as an investment hobby. My best competition (comping) investment? Spent about RM 60 on 3 packs of daughter’s milk powder and was awarded a trip of a lifetime for our little family of 3 worth RM 18k. That’s 300% ROI yo! Yup, I look forward to receiving those anonymous calls and no longer dreading picking it up having to evade telemarketers.
I’d love to share my observations, info or anything that I find interesting about Malaysian comping scene.
Until then.. Do drop by your comments or just to say hi, I would appreciate it! And please subscribe by filling up the form below to get updates whenever I post new stuffs here 🙂
